Simple Ways to Give Back this #GivingTuesday

November 29, 2016

Giving Tuesday pt.2#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration of generous people around the world to bring about real change in our communities. We are excited to participate this year and want to encourage you to do the same.

Give by Shopping pt.1

Give By Shopping

Gift Catalogs

So many organizations offer the opportunity for you to buy gifts for friends and family that help people all over the world.  If your niece likes animals, you could buy chickens for a family in Africa. Your grandma likes to sew, then buy a sewing machine for a woman in India who has escaped trafficking. So many great options. Here are a few to chose from:

Preemptive Love Coalition

Food for the Hungry

World Vision

Save the Children

Allies Market

The Allies Market is a venue for patrons to shop responsibly this holiday season, while supporting local, socially conscious vendors.

The market features fair trade, direct trade, and social enterprise merchants who use their businesses to promote employment and well-being for people in Austin and around the world. This free event for the public will include art, jewelry, music, clothing, purses/bags, toys, cosmetics, coffee, paper goods, housewares, photo prints, and much more.

Noonday Collection

Noonday is a pioneer in the business market. They partner with talented artisan entrepreneurs to make a difference in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. By developing artisan businesses through fair trade, we empower them to grow sustainably and to create dignified jobs for people who need them. Together they’re building a flourishing world where children are cherished, women are empowered, people have jobs and we are connected.

Mitscoots Cause Cap pt. 3

The Cause Cap

We are in our final days of our Kickstarter campaign. You can give back by purchasing the Cause Cap on our Kickstarter Page.  This cap will help employ the homeless and will provide a cap for someone in need as well.  Not to mention the cap is guaranteed for 5 years. Go ahead, buy one for your friend too and we’ll be sure to get it to you before Christmas.

Other great giving companies we love:

Smile Squared

Raven + Lily

Beard and Tackle

Slumlove Sweater Company

Lokai

Charity pt.4

Give Your Money

The Adventure Project

The Adventure Project is a charity focused on business. When local economies thrive, children survive and families escape poverty faster. Increased incomes are also proven to reduce conflict. Their goal for 2017 is to create 1,000 jobs, but their goal today is to motivate 1,000 people to join and give, helping unlock a matching gift of $25,000. Watch the great video about how and why they do this.

MOAS

Migrant Offshore Aid Station is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea by providing professional search and rescue to people who are in distress. MOAS is passionate about the plight of those who are desperate enough to put themselves and their families in danger as they flee violence, persecution and oppression by setting off on the world’s most deadliest maritime migration routes.  In the first two years, MOAS has rescued nearly 12,000 people at sea. Their goal today is to raise $25,000 which is one day’s operational cost.

Other great organizations we support:

Caritas of Austin

Mobile Loaves and Fishes

Mission Accomplished

SafePlace

Lifeworks

Coffee with Grandma pt.4

Give Your Time

Think creatively.  Do you have an elderly neighbor that might enjoy having tea or coffee this afternoon?  Take a few minutes out of your day to brighten someone else's day.  Have your kids draw them a picture and deliver it with you.

Ask your spouse, friend, or parent how you could serve them today. Do something special for them that lets them know you care.

Donating Goodwill pt. 5

Give Your Stuff

Take a walk around your house.  Collect some items and take them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. You could collect some items that might be useful to someone on the street like gloves, chapstick, blankets, hats, or lotion and drive around passing them out to people you encounter. If your kids no longer use those craft items, donate them to your local Ronald McDonald house or children’s shelter.

We are so thankful for all of you and the generous community we have around us.  Thanks for being an amazing giving group of people.  Let’s change the world together, one day at a time.
