Mitscoots had a full house on Tuesday, when we welcomed the Custer Road United Methodist Church’s Youth Group from Plano, Texas. We were their first stop during the week-long Austin Mission Trip, filled with service and sightseeing. From the moment this group stepped off the vans, you could tell they were ready to serve and get to work to make a difference for those in need.
After their long drive, the group learned a little bit about the company, before breaking up into teams. Once the teams were set, the group jumped head first into their task of assembling Care Canisters. As the canister team quickly unwrapped 400 tennis ball canisters, the runners flew up and down the stairs ensuring each assembly team had the materials they needed to make the Care Canisters. The Canisters included snacks, toiletries, a pair of socks and an uplifting note from the group. Watching the group work together to complete the canisters was inspiring.
As the group loaded back up into the vans, they each bought a pair of socks, allowing us to give away more socks in Austin. During their Austin visit, the 56 middle schoolers handed out the Care Canisters at Foundations for the Homeless, a Giving Partner. Besides Foundations for the Homeless, they also served at Feed My People and visited Zilker Park and Mount Bonnell. It was an amazing experience all around.
